Craziness!

I work at a franchised real estate company.  So, while each office is independently owned and operated, we have use certain programs as a part of the company.  I’ve never had any problems before, but my real estate program has been giving me problems all week!

As part of my 'Daily Tasks’ Checklist, I’m supposed to do certain things.  One of those things would be to ‘verify’ the program.  This is an item that’s only been added in the past year, and while I do verify frequently, I don’t do it daily.  It takes about 20 minutes to process, and I don’t always have 20 minutes to just sit around while it does what it does.

So, on Tuesday, I decided I would run my verification to make sure my program was okay.  I’ve NEVER had any of my programs come back with an error, so it really shocked (and kind of scared me) when a message pops up and says that my listings file was corrupt.

Luckily, I have an offsite back up that backs up my important programs every night, as well as backing them up to the company server.  So, I go about the process of restoring my data.

None of my week’s worth of data that was backed up was ‘good.’  All of them were corrupt.  And while I was restoring my data, I apparently did something wrong, because then, the whole program was throwing an error at me.

Completely drove me crazy, as I spent ALL of Tuesday trying to fix the problem.

I finally had someone from our International office contact me on Wednesday morning.  She spent ALL of Wednesday morning working on my computer from Texas.  She got it fixed around 12:30 p.m.  I was excited!  That meant I wouldn’t have to enter all of the month’s data in, as I thought that was going to end up happening.  Yay!

So, I ran the verification before I backed up my system last night.  I got this HUGE error message – took up the whole screen, and then some – right before I left for the day.  I decided that I didn’t want to try to figure out what was wrong, so I just left for the day.  It was almost 6 p.m., and I just didn’t have the right mindset to work through it, again.

So, this morning, I come in, open the program, and run the verification, again, just to see if it would work this time.  God really does love me, because it came back with: “All systems and data files are OK!” Yay!

I actually get to do some work today!

However, I did finish reading Nicholas Sparks’ The Last Song yesterday while the lady was working on my computer.  It was WONDERFUL!!!  I’m probably partial, though, as I’m from NC and all of his books are set on the coast.  And I’ve loved him since he first started writing – I’m talking The Notebook, only about 6 years before the movie ever came out.  And most of his books are much better than the movies! =.)  I DEFINITELY recommend you read his latest book, The Last Song, if you like his other books.  It’s better than the last 3-4 books.  I cried through maybe the last quarter of the book?  You should go read it.  Now. =.)

Thank goodness everything is ok with your files! That is alarming for sure!
I will have to read that book. I made the mistake of seeing The Notebook before reading the book and that was a big mistake!
